Pathway Student Success Teams
Phase One Training Guide 2022
For Discipline Faculty or Classified Members
THANK YOU for choosing to be a Pathway Student Success Team Member!
As a student-centered institution, each one of us are key members of a student’s success
team. We appreciate your choice to be identified as a resource for students via our
Academic & Career Pathway websites. Our goal is to enhance the college experience
and career preparation for all students by providing clear pathway course sequencing,
key milestone information, and proactive and intentional support within each of our
7 Academic & Career Pathways (plus our 8th “Undecided”). Pathways Student Success
Teams, or PSSTs, will utilize accessible and inclusive support services for all students
and promote timely completion of transfer, degree, and career-technical goals to reduce
equity gaps.
Discipline Faculty or Classified Team Expectations in Phase One
- Time: Dedicate at least 1 hr each week responding to Pathway students who contact you.
- Discipline Faculty: As an identified Pathway Student Success Team member, you chose to dedicate at least one office hour to provide academic and holistic support to students in your Pathway, and a soft-handshake to campus resources.
- Classified Personnel: In alignment with the Classified Caring Campus Initiative, you chose to identify yourself as a resource to students on Academic & Career Pathway websites.
- Provide Contact Information: Each of you will work with Tim Druley to update our LPC’s Directory “Find People” to include current contact information of when, where and how students can contact
you with Pathway questions or needs. Ideally, you include a picture of yourself.
- Example:
- Know your Pathway Information and Holistic Supports: Familiarize yourself with your Pathway website and new Student Resource Hub! When students come to you with Pathway questions or holistic needs, show them where they can find the information on our websites.
- Provide a “soft handshake” to a needed resource:When a student's need is identified, provide a “soft-handshake” to refer them to someone on campus who can support their needs. In-person this can mean walking the student over to the Health Center if they are in crisis or into the Tutorial Center if they need academic support. Virtually this can mean sending an introductory email between the student and someone in the support area. This simple act aligns with our Caring Campus Initiative and proven best practices to increase a sense of belonging and authentic care on our campus!
- This is an US THING! As you get questions or needs from folks and you do not know how to support them, reach out to Kristy Woods. Together we can improve our student experience!
