21st Century Policing Certificate of Achievement (CA)
About the Program
The Certificate of Achievement in 21st Century Policing is awarded to students who complete a course of study that emphasizes transformational leadership, ethical behavior, and principled policing. Students will develop specialized knowledge and understanding that will enable them to practice fair and procedurally just policing and allow them to meet a wide variety of challenges and expectations placed on modern police officers.
Career Opportunities
Municipal or Special District Police Officer, County Deputy Sheriff, Game Warden, Highway Patrol Officer, and any other peace officer as defined in California Penal Code section 830 et seq.
Program Outcomes
- Upon completion of the Certificate of Achievement in 21st Century Policing, demonstrate both an understanding and the practical application of the leadership and ethical standards implicit in democratic policing.
- Upon completion of the Certificate of Achievement in 21st Century Policing, demonstrate the ability to read, understand, and critically analyze primary documents, scholarly journal articles, and academic texts regarding the geneses and evolution of American policing.
- Upon completion of the Certificate of Achievement in 21st Century Policing, describe the major concepts, theoretical perspectives, empirical findings, and evolving strategies of American policing.
- Upon completion of the Certificate of Achievement in 21st Century Policing, assume a supervisory leadership position in a state or local law enforcement agency.
