Financial Aid Steps
Step One: Apply for Financial Aid
The FAFSA/CA Dream Act priority Cal Grant deadline is March 2nd for the incoming academic school year. However, students may always apply after the priority deadline.
To successfully complete a FAFSA/CA Dream Act you will need the following:
- Personal information: full name, email, phone number, SSN (if you have one) etc.
- A-Registration Number: (for non-U.S. citizens)
- Income tax returns: 1040 forms and appropriate schedules, W-2, and any other records of income
- Bank statements and records of investments (if applicable)
- Untaxed Income information (if applicable)
* If you are a dependent student (in accordance with the Department of Education guidelines) you must also provide your parent(s) or spouse's information.
Important things to remember:
- Make sure to include the Federal School Code (Las Positas College: 030357 ) and provide accurate income information.
- You (and your spouse or parents) are strongly encouraged to use the IRS Data Retrieval process to complete your FAFSA, to ensure accurate information and to shorten the verification process with our office.
- Make sure that you electronically sign your FAFSA by using your FSA ID. For detailed instructions click here.
- For CA Dream Act applicants, your parent will need to sign your application via a Parent PIN.
Step 2: Select your Refund preference
FAFSA applicants will receive instructions on how to select a refund preference with BankMobile Disbursements, a technology solution, powered by BMTX, Inc.
Returning students at Las Positas College: your refund will be delivered according
to the refund preference you set the previous year(s).
If you are having trouble setting up your refund preference, please see our BankMobile Disbursements page.
CA Dream Act applicants will get a refund check from the District Office, if eligible.
Step 3: Submit Required Forms through Verify My Application
Read your Student Aid Report (SAR) at the end of your financial aid application.
- Review for accuracy, and make corrections as needed on FAFSA or CA Dream Act website before you submit documents online.
Check required documents via CLASS-Web. Click on the "Financial Aid" tab to view your Financial Aid requirements for the appropriate Financial Aid year. If you need assistance uploading your forms, please use Cranium Cafe to speak with staff.
- All documents are processed in the order that they are received. Allow 4-6 weeks to have your verification documents processed.
Important:
July 1st is the deadline to turn in required documents to avoid delay in receiving
financial aid, if eligible. If you do not meet the July 1st priority deadline, you
must be prepared to purchase your own books and supplies without financial aid at
the beginning of the semester or until you submit all required documents (file is
complete). Your file will be processed in the order it was received.
Step 4: Check your Financial Aid Eligibility Online
All students receive financial aid email alerts via ZoneMail. Students should always check their CLASS-Web account to view eligibility and award information. Visit CLASS-Web.
- Students who have applied for financial aid, completed their file and see an awards package on their CLASS-Web account must "Accept" the Terms and Conditions prior to any financial aid disbursement.
- You will have to "ACCEPT" your offer online prior to any funds being disbursed.
- Step 1: Log-in to CLASS-Web and select the "Financial Aid" tab
- Step 2: Select "My Eligibility"
- Step 3: Select "Student Requirements"
- Step 4: Select Award Year
- Step 5: Select "Authorization and Accept FinAid Terms & Conditions"
- Step 6: Read and select "Accept"
Please see this document to guide you on how to "Accept" Terms & Conditions."
Step 5: Keep your Financial Aid
Maintain Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP):
- Federal regulations require that a student receiving federal financial aid make satisfactory academic progress in accordance with the standards set by the federal government and the Chabot-Las Positas Community College District (CLPCCD). Application of these requirements include all terms of enrollment, whether or not aid was awarded or received.
- The College Financial Aid Office will evaluate satisfactory academic progress each
term after Admissions & Records has completed processing of grades, and before aid
is disbursed for the following term.
To meet SAP:- Students must successfully complete a minimum of 67% of units attempted each semester and cumulatively, with a minimum 2.00 semester and cumulative GPA.
- Students are allowed a maximum time frame of 150% of program length, measured in attempted units, in which to be considered for financial aid, with a maximum of 90 attempted units for most Associate and transfer programs.
Students who fail to meet the SAP requirements of GPA or 67% Completion Rate for the
first time will be automatically placed in a Warning Status for one (1) term. They
are expected to meet SAP requirements by the end of that term, or will be placed on
financial aid disqualification.
To check your SAP status on CLASS-Web follow the steps below:
- Step 1: Log-in to CLASS-Web and select the "Financial Aid" tab
- Step 2: Select "My Eligibility"
- Step 3: Select "Academic Progress"
- Step 4: Select Aid Year
Visit CLASS-Web.
Please see this document to guide you on how to check your SAP status.
A student receiving financial aid is always expected to be making progress toward completion of a declared program of study at CLPCCD.
Reapply for Financial Aid every year during the priority application period of Oct 1st - Mar 2nd (Cal Grant Deadline).
Why doesn't LPC have my financial aid application yet?
Reasons may be:
- You have NOT completed your Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) or DREAM Act Application or you may have completed the incorrect aid year
- You have NOT entered our College/ Federal School Code (030357) in your submitted FAFSA or DREAM Act Application
- You have completed your FAFSA but we have NOT received it. It takes approximately 7-10 days after your FAFSA submission for us to retrieve your information (The DREAM Act Application takes much longer.)
Always double check:
- Make sure you have completed the correct FAFSA for the appropriate Financial Aid Year.
- Submit your FAFSA by using your FSA ID
