Student Fraud
Las Positas College is committed to maintaining the integrity of the financial aid process. In accordance with federal regulations, we are required to report any suspected fraud or criminal misconduct related to Title IV financial aid programs to the U.S. Department of Education’s Office of Inspector General (OIG).
What Constitutes Financial Aid Fraud?
Fraud includes, but is not limited to:
- Knowingly misrepresenting family or financial information on financial aid applications
- Providing false or altered documents to obtain financial aid
- Certifying false statements as true and correct
- Manipulating the financial aid process for personal gain
Institutional Policy
Las Positas College will refer all suspected cases of fraud to the U.S. Department of Education’s OIG for investigation. The college is not responsible for making a final determination of fraud—only for reporting suspected cases.
Consequences of Financial Aid Fraud
Individuals found to have committed fraud may face:
- Repayment of funds received through fraudulent means
- Prosecution by federal authorities
- Suspension or removal from Las Positas College
