LPC Student VETERANS Organization
WELCOME from the LPC Student Veterans Organization
It is with great pleasure that we greet you from the Student Veterans Organization at Las Positas College in Livermore. On behalf of the community, the school, and your fellow veterans, we would like to take a moment to thank all service members and their families for your commitment and hard work in supporting our Nation at home and from abroad. As you adjust to life outside the military, you’ll see the next greatest challenge now is starting down the path toward a higher education, so we personally commend you for taking the first steps.
You will find that Las Positas College has an excellent staff dedicated to providing you with the services and support you’ll need to fulfill your academic requirements. Whether you are here for individual classes or looking to transfer, the resources on campus are designed to help you succeed. Las Positas offers facilities such as the Learning Resource Center, Tutoring Center, and an exceptional Library. As a Veteran, your journey begins at the Veterans Resource Center. The VRC will help you understand your education benefits, provide study tools for your classes, inform you of scholarship opportunities, and guide you to the other resources on campus. The VRC also provides an environment for veterans to come meet each other, complete homework and study, or just relax in between your classes. Comfortable chairs, TV, and gaming consoles are there for your use. This is also the home of the Student Veterans Organization.
As a Veteran you are automatically a member of the Student Veterans Organization here at LPC. The SVO is committed to providing support to our veterans, school, and community. We are continuously looking for activities that will positively affect our organization, and allow our members to be actively involved. These activities include: bi-weekly meetings used as a forum for veterans to receive and share up-to-date information; participation with local community groups to provide outreach support and awareness for returning vets; community service projects that enhance our school and neighborhoods; fundraising events to raise money for projects, charity, and organization enhancement. Participation is highly encouraged, at your own pace, as it helps each individual continue to grow personally, and it shows Universities and future Employers active community involvement.
The SVO holds its meetings regularly every second Wednesday of every month at the Veterans Resource Center. Agendas and any changes to the schedule will be emailed out in advance. Meetings are designed to be a relaxed and open atmosphere, so feel free to show up and share any comments or concerns, or just hang out to stay informed. For any issues which require special attention or more details please feel free to email the SVO Officers at firstname.lastname@example.org. Once again, Welcome to Las Positas, and we look forward to seeing you on campus!
