SLO Music Video Contest

Las Positas College wants everyone to know what an SLO (Student Learning Outcome) is, so we've put together a song explaining the concept. Now you're invited to turn it into a music video!

All students of the College are welcome to submit an entry to the LPC SLO Music Video Contest. Download "The SLO Song" here and use it as the soundtrack for an original music video. The best way to download the song is to right click on the link and select "Save Target As:," then download it to the desktop or some other location you choose. Files like.m4a can be played with iTunes, VLC, and several other media players. Windows Media Player will not play it without special plugins.

All entries will be posted to the College website next semester, when viewers will select the winning entry. A grand prize of $350 cash, Courtesy of the LPC Foundation.

All video submissions should be made on CD in .avi, .mov, or .wmv format and left for Lauren Hasten at the reception desk in the 100 Building. Please include your name, contact information, and major.

Download the SLO Video Contest Flyer. (48K PDF)

The deadline for all submissions is Friday, April 2, 2010.

What’s an SLO? It’s a skill you’ll acquire when you take a course. Check out the SLO’s for your courses at: http://www.laspositascollege.edu/slo/lists/slo_list.pdf

Lyrics to THE SLO SONG

Originally recorded by Panic! At the Disco ("I Write Sins Not Tragedies")

Oh, what’s the point, what’s the purpose of taking this required class?
And I can't help but to wonder, no I can't help but to wonder what I’m gonna’ learn.
What'll I get out of it? What skills will it give me?
Will I ever really use them? Will I use it again? And will they help me to get a job?

SLOs are the things that you ought to be able to do once you pass a class.
Yeah, they’re just some of the skills you can achieve with a sense of confidence and mastery.

Yeah, they’re just some of the skills you can achieve with a sense of. . .

Well in fact, well I'll look at it this way, I mean technically I paid for this class.
So I think I should know what I just paid for.
Oh! Well in fact, well I'll look at it this way, I mean technically I paid for this class.
Will I ever apply what I learn from this guy, learn from this guy?
