Associate in Science
About the Program
The Engineering Transfer program at Las Positas College is designed to prepare students to transfer to an engineering major at a four-year institution. The transfer program includes rigorous coursework from several different departments, including Engineering, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, and Computer Science. Although students study general engineering majors at Las Positas, students transfer to specific engineering departments at four-year institutions.
The Engineering Technology program at Las Positas College is a two-year degree pathway resulting in an A.S. in Engineering Technology. This cohort-based learning community is designed as a strong local employment pathway for military veterans and others who want a hands-on engineering career with a focus on mechanical technology in an applied setting. Students receive foundational training in engineering, mathematics, physics, and welding, and develop skills in manufacturing and fabrication, problem-solving, and critical thinking. An accelerated mathematics sequence advances students from intermediate algebra to calculus-readiness in one year.
The Learning Community model also delivers integrated career-readiness and support services. Eligible students have the opportunity to apply for a summer internship or work experience featuring valuable worksite activities, tours, hands-on training, and job-shadowing opportunities at a local engineering company or national laboratory. Graduates of the Engineering Technology program may be employed as mechanical technicians, mechanical technologists, or in other applied engineering fields.

About the Degree
The Associate of Science in Engineering Technology program at Las Positas College is designed for those who want a hands-on engineering career with a focus on mechanical technology in an applied setting. The emphasis is on Mechanical Engineering applications and developing an understanding of how engineering, technology and manufacturing principles are applied in practice. The program provides students with foundational knowledge in mathematics, critical thinking, problem solving, and engineering design, as well as skills in manufacturing, fabrication, and welding so that students are able to adapt to the ever-changing modern industrial workplace. Students may also choose to continue their education towards a degree in a related engineering discipline.
Graduates of the program may find employment as mechanical technicians, mechanical technologists, stationary engineers, or in other applied engineering fields and may collaborate with scientists, engineers, designers, and manufacturing professionals.
- Upon completion of the AS in Engineering Technology, students are able to apply fundamental principles from mathematics, science and engineering to solve an engineering technology related problem.
- Upon completion of the AS in Engineering Technology, students are able to set up appropriate laboratory equipment, collect and analyze data, draw conclusions, and clearly communicate results.
- Upon completion of the AS in Engineering Technology, students are able to use a variety
of technological tools to solve engineering technology problems.

ᅀRequired if a student uses the Las Positas College General Education Pattern for Associate of Science (AS) Degree
|Total Units in the Major||34|
The Associate Degree is conferred upon those students who complete the required 60
or more semester units of the degree pattern with a grade-point average of 2.0 or
better, of which 12 units must be earned at Las Positas College. In addition, students
must complete a General Education pattern in order to earn a degree: see the Las Positas
College General Education Pattern for Associate of Science (AS) Degree, California
State University General Education-Breadth, or the Intersegmental General Education
Transfer Curriculum (for CSU) patterns for listing of areas and courses. Double counting
courses in GE and the major is permissible. The number of units that may be double
counted will depend on the entry point to the degree program, the optional course(s)
taken, and the GE pattern selected. Elective units are degree applicable. Consult
with an adviser or a counselor to plan the courses necessary to achieve your academic
