Canvas: Adding banners, buttons, images

Spice up your Canvas course by adding banners and buttons to the home page. Learn how to create these graphics using free online tools. Also, learn how to add images to your course and make them accessible to students with disabilities.

Canvas: Assessments

Learn how to create Assignments and Quizzes in Canvas. In order for a Gradebook column to be created for an assignment, you must use the Assignments tool. Assignments allow students a variety of ways to upload submissions. The Quiz tool is also used for exams and surveys.

Canvas: Building Content

Learn how to create Pages, which is where you can put content and educational resources that are part of your course but don't necessarily belong in an assignment. You can include text, video, and links to your Pages. Pages are typically part of Modules.

Canvas: Collaboration

Learn how to enhance collaboration in your course by using Discussions, Groups, and the web conferencing tool ConferZoom.

Canvas: Gradebook

The Gradebook has a variety of functions aside from just allowing instructors and students to track the progress of students. One of the most important functions is the SpeedGrader, which is used to grade Assignments and give feedback.

Canvas: Introduction to Canvas

This one hour class is a tour of how Canvas is organized and some of the options you will have setting up your class. It covers signing into Canvas, Global Navigation, Course Navigation, Settings, Notifications, creating Assignments, and the Gradebook. You will also learn how to locate additional resources to help you learn how to use Canvas. This class is intended for users who are new to Canvas.

Canvas: Non-instructional Courses

A non-instructional course is a course to post information and, possibly, for users to communicate. Typical uses include work within committees, task forces, departments, and Student Services areas. Since these are not official LPC courses, leaders of these courses are responsible for managing users.

Canvas: Using LPC's Model Course based on the OEI's Course Design Rubric

The Online Education Initiative's Course Design Rubric establishes standards of a quality online course. The LPC Model Course was created based on those standards. The Model Course can be used in your online course as a template to follow while building the rest of your course.

Canvas Introduction (Flex Day)

In this hands-on introductory workshop, faculty will learn about, and work with, the Canvas Global Navigation items: Dashboard, Account (including Notifications and Files), Calendar, Help; Communication tools: Inbox, Announcements; and the Gradebook

Canvas Advanced (Flex Day)

In this hands-on advanced workshop, faculty will learn about, and work with, Canvas Assignments, Discussions, Quizzes, Syllabus, Modules, and Content Pages.

eLumen as an Instructor

This workshop will go over the basics of navigating the new eLumen system for those with faculty access (locating SLOs, designing assessments, and entering data). This workshop is appropriate for full-time and part-time faculty who are using SLOs designed by a discipline SLO point-person.

eLumen as a Coordinator

This workshop will go over the basics of navigating the new eLumen system for those with discipline coordinator access (writing/editing SLOs, planning assessments, and locating SLO data for use in Program Review). This workshop is appropriate for full-time and part-time faculty that are serving as the discipline SLO point-person.

Instructional Video in Online Courses

Learn about different types of videos that can be created, then learn how to quickly and easily make them with tools such as Screencast-O-Matic, 3C Media Solutions, YouTube, and even your mobile devices.

Using Tablets with Classroom Projectors

This workshop with give you practice using your course materials with tablet computers that can be connected to classroom projectors. Being able to write directly on PDFs, PowerPoints, and Word documents can make your class more dynamic and increase student participation. Participants will be trained on how to use the program and troubleshoot issues that might arise.

Web Accessibility Basics

Learn the basics of how to make your course content accessible to students with disabilities. This workshop includes general information about web accessibility, along with techniques to use in Canvas and techniques on how to make Word and PowerPoint files accessible.
