Modality of Instruction
What is an “In-Person” course?
A course taught live in-person at the college for the entire duration of the course.
What is an “Online” course?
A course taught only online for the entire duration of the course. Students are not required to go to the college.
What is a “Hybrid” course?
A course taught both live in-person at the college and online for the entire duration of the course. The number of times that students will be required to go to the college will depend on the course.
How do I know what kind of course I will be taking?
Course information may be found on CLASS-Web (online student portal) under “Section Notes.”
Instructional Information
What is “Asynchronous Instruction”?*
A course in which course materials will be made available by the faculty for students to access them on their own time. No need to meet with the instructor and other students in real time online.
What is “Synchronous Instruction”?*
A course in which the instructor and students are required to meet in real time online in order to engage, review, and discuss course material and assignments.
*NOTE: Some courses will be taught with a combination of asynchronous and synchronous instruction, which means that portions of the course will be delivered live at schedule times while other instruction will be available at the student’s discretion during the term.
How do I know what kind of course I will be taking?
Course information may be found on CLASS-Web (online student portal) under “Section Notes.”
COVID-19 Related Information
Will face masks be required at all times at the college?
Yes, face masks will be required of all persons at all times while at the college.
Will face masks be required in classrooms, laboratories, and other college facilities?
Yes, all persons on-campus will be required to wear face masks while on-campus within all college facilities including classrooms and laboratories.
Do I need to cover my nose and mouth with my face mask?
Yes, face masks need to cover the nose and mouths of all persons while at the college.
What do I do if I forget my face mask at home?
Free face masks will be available upon request from the Office of Campus Safety & Security and the Student Health & Wellness Center while supplies last.
Is social distancing required?
Yes, all persons are required to social distance at least six feet while on-campus.
What does practice good hygiene mean?
All persons are asked to practice good hygiene while on-campus which means washing hands thoroughly with water and soap, utilizing hand sanitizer, and avoiding touching their eyes, nose, or mouth.
What do I do if I begin to feel sick on-campus?
Persons who begin to feel sick while on-campus are asked to leave campus immediately and seek medical attention. All persons are asked to report to their instructor(s) if they are experiencing COVID-19 related symptoms or test positive for COVID-19.
What happens if I test positive for COVID-19?
Persons who test positive for COVID-19 are asked to contact their instructor(s) so that contact tracing may begin immediately.
Will confidentiality be maintained if I report to test positive for COVID-19?
Yes, confidentiality will be maintained for all persons per the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and other applicable federal and state laws.
How long do I have to self-quarantine?
All persons are asked to self-quarantine for 14-days prior to returning to the college.
Whom do I contact if I see someone not complying with the public health order?
All persons are asked to contact the Office of Campus Safety & Security to report individuals who are not complying with the public health order of wearing a face mask, maintaining social distancing, and practicing good hygiene. The Office of Campus Safety & Security may be reached at (925) 424-1690.
What will happen if I do not comply with the public health order?
Individuals who do not comply with the public health order will be asked to leave the college immediately.
Technology Resources
Will I have access to free Wi-Fi internet while on-campus?
All students will have access to free Wi-Fi internet while on-campus including college parking lots C and D.
Where can I borrow a laptop or other college equipment?
All students who require a laptop or other college technology in order to benefit from online instruction are encouraged to fill out a Technology Request Form for possible equipment loans. A library staff member will contact requesters and may seek some additional information about the need. If qualified and resources are available, library staff will schedule a time for the equipment to picked up at the Learning Resource Center (Library).
How long can I borrow the laptop or other college technology from the college?
Students may borrow laptops and other college technology from the college for the entire fall semester. All laptops and other college technology will be due at the conclusion of the fall semester unless the student plans to continue their enrollment at Las Positas College for spring semester 2021.
Is there a cost to borrow a laptop or other college technology from the college?
No. There is no cost to borrow a laptop or other college technology from the college.
Where do I pick-up the laptop or other college technology once I have been approved?
All laptops and other college technology is available for pick-up from the Las Positas College Library located in Building 2000 on an appointment basis during business hours.

What is ConferZoom?
ConferZoom is a tool with Canvas that allows instructors and students to communicate with each other in real time. If enabled within the Canvas course, students can just click on the ConferZoom link at the appointed time to access this web conferencing software. What is Proctorio?

What is CLASS-Web?
CLASS-Web is the college’s online student portal where students may register for courses, view the online student orientation, take the guided self-placement, pay fees, order a parking permit, and much more. The Admissions & Records Office, the Office of Campus Safety & Security, the Disability Resource Center, and the Student Health & Wellness Center. Each office has its own hours of operation so students are encouraged to visit their respective webpages for the most up-to-date information.

Students may request assistance from Student Services departments, offices, and programs by sending an e-mail message or by visiting the respective webpage.

At this time, no additional Student Services departments, offices, and programs are scheduled to open to serve students in-person during the fall semester 2020.

The Admissions & Records Office is open Monday through Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. to serve students in-person.
What services are available in-person from the Admissions & Records Office?
The Admissions & Records Office is only providing two services in-person for students – (1) issuance of student identification cards; and (2) acceptance of cash payments for fees owed to the college. All other services are available online or remotely.
How do I request additional services online or remotely?
Students are asked to e-mail lpc-admissions@laspositascollege.edu to request additional services from the Admissions & Records Office.
How can I obtain a student identification card?
Students may obtain a student identification card by visiting the Admissions & Records Office from Monday through Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Student identification cards are free of charge and allow students to access on-campus resources, receive discounts from select businesses off-campus, and ride the Wheels bus without paying the ridership fare.
How can I pay cash for fees owed to the college?
Cash payments are accepted at the Admissions & Records Office from Monday through Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.
Campus Safety & Security
Will parking permits be required on-campus for fall semester 2020?
Yes, parking permits will be required for all students planning to visit the college to take classes, receive support services, or conduct essential business.
Where do I purchase a daily parking permit?
Daily parking permits are available for purchase from parking permit dispensers located in college parking lots.
Where do I purchase a semester parking permit?
Semester parking permits may be purchased online via CLASS-Web (online student portal).
Will I receive a parking ticket if I do not have a parking permit?
Yes, all persons are required to purchase and properly display a parking permit when parking in a college parking lot.
Will safety escort services be offered?
Yes, all persons may request free safety escort services between the college parking lots and college buildings at any time. Safety escort services may be requested by calling (925) 424-1690.
In an emergency, whom do I call while on-campus?
All persons are asked to dial the emergency telephone of the Office of Campus Safety & Security by calling (925) 424-1699.
What days and times is the Office of Campus Safety & Security open?
The Office of Campus Safety & Security is open 24 hours per day, 7 days per week.
Disability Resource Center
When will the Disability Resource Center reopen to serve students in-person?
The Disability Resource Center will reopen on Monday, August 10, 2020 for the fall semester 2020.

The Disability Resource Center is open Monday through Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. on an appointment basis to serve students in-person.

What services are available in-person from the Disability Resource Center?
The Disability Resource Center provides access to alternative media, in-person test proctoring, preparation and updating of academic accommodation plans (AAP), reasonable accommodations, interpretation services (American Sign Language – ASL), and lends equipment and furniture, as warranted.

When will the Student Health & Wellness Center reopen to serve students in-person?
The Student Health & Wellness Center will reopen for fall semester 2020 on Monday, August 17, 2020.

The Student Health & Wellness Center is open:
Mondays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
Tuesdays from 11:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m.
