Guided Self-Placement or Multiple Measures
GUIDED SELF-PLACEMENT for English and Mathematics
California Assembly Bill (AB) 705 requires Las Positas College to maximize the probability that students will enter and complete transfer-level coursework in English and mathematics within a one-year timeframe and use high school coursework, high school grades, and high school grade point average for placement. Las Positas College is committed to providing academic and student support services to achieve the goal of maximizing the probability students will enter and complete such coursework.
Students are encouraged to complete the guided self-placement to assist with the development of a student educational plan and determine proper placement into English and mathematics courses. Students who plan to earn an associate degree, earn an associate degree for transfer, or plan to transfer to a four-year university are encouraged to complete the guided self-placement process.
Class-Web is the online portal that students will use to complete guided self-placement into English and mathematics courses in accordance with criteria established by college faculty. Students may access Class-Web upon receipt of a student identification number ("W" number). Additional information may be found on the Las Positas College Assessment Center webpage.
English Guided Self-Placement
High school graduates with a cumulative, unweighted grade point average of 2.5 or higher will self-place into transfer-level English Language & Composition (English 1A). High school graduates with a cumulative, unweighted grade point average below 2.5 are encouraged to take transfer-level English Critical Reading & Composition Expanded (English 1AEX) or non-transfer-level/one level below transfer English Integrated Reading & Writing II (English 104).

High school graduates will self-place into the appropriate mathematics class using three criteria: their cumulative, unweighted grade point average, the highest-level mathematics course completed, and the grade received in that course.

Students who plan to enroll concurrently while still in high school including Middle College, non-high school graduates, international students, English as a Second Language (ESL) learners, and students who are unsure of proper English and mathematics placement are encouraged to contact the Las Positas College Assessment Center for assistance.
