Highlights from the 2024 LPC Symposium
In Spring 2024, the LPC Honors Program hosted the annual Student Symposium, a showcase of our students’ research and passion projects. Held in the 2100 building, the symposium brought together students, faculty, and family to watch and celebrate the efforts of our Honors students.
The 2024 symposium featured 13 posters and 16 presentations, with each project coming from a vast number of disciplines. Topics ranged from the accessibility of mental health resources in community colleges, studies on interpersonal relationships across cultures, a discussion on economic game theory, and even a biological study on Islamic foods. Our students got the chance to share their personal passion projects and offer a unique perspective on their topics. Walking around the building and observing each poster, it is clear that each project was a distillation of months of research and consistent effort throughout the school year.
What truly made this event special was the amount of people who came to see our students present. Throughout the afternoon, the lobby and presentation rooms were filled with spirit and curiosity. With 6 presenters in each room across 2 sessions, students could show off their research in-depth. The subsequent poster session allowed them to engage in conversations about their project with student peers and attendees.
In the end, the Student Symposium is a reminder of why Las Positas has an Honors Program in the first place: to provide more opportunities for our students, to encourage academic excellence, but most of all the Honors Program aims to provide a place where students feel like they are allowed to pursue their passions, interests, and curiosities.
