COVID Plan for Spring 2021 and into the future.
Classes that meet for Lecture will be online. Distance education using things such as Zoom and other technologies. Classes that have a Lab component will be at the college in the Automotive Lab, room 809. Specific safety protocols will be enforced as per College management and Alameda County.
What this means for the student; Lecture will be synchronous. This means the instructor will have a live session that students will attend at a prescribed time every week virtually. The lecture will also be recorded and posted to the Canvas site for the student to watch anytime. Instructors will invite students to the live version and attendance is mandatory, just as a face to face lecture would be. For lab sessions the student will show up to the automotive lab for hands on training.
By making this change now and into the future. The Automotive Program is adjusting with the times. When distance education first started we never thought it could work. However, after two semesters, we have had a change of heart. We asked ourselves. What is the difference between student sitting in a room and listening to us live or sitting at home and doing the same thing? We also asked. Why are we having all the students drive to the college when we could reduce our carbon footprint. With these two examples and many others the Automotive classes at Las Positas College have moved to hybrid. The hands-on labs will always be on campus. Without the hands-on experience in automotive a student would not be ready for the exciting carreer ahead of them.
Class sizes have been reduced to make social distancing possible. Once a class is full add numbers can not be given.
Your instructor will contact you though Canvas the first week of school. Please check you Canvas messages for specific instructions for your class.
