Mission Statement
The Law & Justice Club empowers students to explore the justice field beyond the classroom through meaningful engagement and real‑world opportunities. Members connect with guest speakers, gain insight into career pathways, access internship opportunities, enjoy field-trips and build a supportive network of peers interested in law, policing, corrections, courts, and community service. Participation strengthens your academic and professional profile for transfer applications and future employment, while fostering leadership, service, and community engagement.
And yes, the club often provides free lunch!

MEETINGS
The Club meets the second Thursday of each month in the 3400 Building, Room 3434 from 1:00pm - 2:00pm.
MEMBERSHIP
All Las Positas College students/majors are welcome!
Please know you do not need to attend all of the meetings to be a member of the club. If you would like to attend one of our meetings to decide if the club is right for you, please join us on the second Thursday of the month. Otherwise, please complete the membership form at the following: Membership Registration Form or email lawnjusticelpc@gmail.com to express your interest in joining!
CLUB FACULTY ADVISOR
Professor Cheryl Mackey, Esq., serves as the faculty advisor to the Law & Justice Club. She brings her experience in legal practice, justice‑system education, law enforcement and student mentorship to the role, supporting the club’s mission to help students explore careers in law, policing, courts, and public service.
MEET OUR CLUB OFFICERS
Jiya Kumar - President
Hi everyone! My name is Jiya Kumar, and I’m honored to serve as the President of the Law & Justice Club at Las Positas College. I aspire to become an attorney and am passionate about pursuing a career in law, advocacy, and justice.
As President, my goal is to help create a club where students can build meaningful connections, explore different careers in the legal and justice fields, and gain experiences that prepare them for their futures. I believe that law is more than just understanding rules. It’s about knowing how to advocate, lead, and make an impact.
I’m excited to learn from legal professionals, connect with students who share the
same ambitions, and help create opportunities for everyone in our club. I’m determined
to make the most of every opportunity, continue challenging myself, and build the
foundation for a career in law. This is only the beginning, and I’m ready to see how
far we can take it.
Bennett Kuempel - Vice President
Hello everyone! My name is Bennett, and I’m honored to serve as the Vice President of the Law & Justice Club. I’m a second-year student at Las Positas College pursuing an AS-T in Administration of Justice, with plans to transfer next fall and eventually attend law school.
My goal is to pursue a career as a criminal defense attorney. I’m passionate about the legal system and the importance of strong advocacy, fairness, and representation. Outside of academics, I enjoy going to the gym, playing piano, and driving around with my friends. I’m also a proud pet owner with two dogs and a snake!
I’m very excited to be part of this club, meet like-minded students, and help build
a strong community for everyone interested in law and justice.
Linnea Carey - Secretary
Hello everyone! My name is Linnea, and I’m excited to serve as the Secretary of the Law & Justice Club. This is my third year at Las Positas College, where I’m pursuing associate degrees in Administration of Justice and Psychology.
After this year, I plan to transfer to a university to pursue Criminal Psychology. Criminal justice has always been a passion of mine, and I’m fascinated by understanding the factors behind why people commit crimes, as well as exploring ways to prevent crime and promote safer communities.
I’m excited to meet like-minded people through the club, build meaningful connections,
and explore the many opportunities available in the legal and justice fields. I can’t
wait to see what we accomplish together this year!
Gautham Ramalingam - Internship Chair
Hello everyone! My name is Gautham Ramalingam, and I’m a junior in the Middle College program at Las Positas College. I’m excited to serve as the Internship Chair for the Law & Justice Club.
I’m pursuing an associate degree in Administration of Justice with the goal of becoming a practicing corporate attorney. I’m especially interested in gaining real-world experience and creating opportunities for students to connect with professionals and explore potential career paths.
As Internship Chair, I’m looking forward to helping students discover internships,
professional experiences, and connections that can turn their interests into lifelong
opportunities. I’m excited to get to know everyone and help build a strong network
within our club!
Sierra Kulak - Treasurer & Marketing Officer
Hi everyone! My name is Sierra, and I’m excited to serve as the Treasurer & Marketing Officer for the Law & Justice Club for the 2026–2027 academic year. I’m a freshman at Las Positas College, pursuing my AA degree in Administration of Justice, with plans to transfer to a university to earn my bachelor’s degree in either Forensic Science or Criminology.
Since I was young, I’ve known that I wanted to make a difference in my community and contribute to creating a safer society. In high school, I took a Criminal Justice class and participated in a Criminal Justice ROP program. After graduating in 2018, I earned a certificate of completion from the Junior Explorers Police Academy through the Alameda County Sheriff’s Office.
Those experiences confirmed my passion for the criminal justice field and inspired me to continue pursuing a career where I can serve others. My goal is to pursue justice, support my community, and make a meaningful impact on the people around me.
I’m incredibly excited to be part of the Law & Justice Club this year and can’t wait
to see what we accomplish together!
Tulika Sahoo - Event Coordinator
Hi everyone! My name is Tulika Sahoo, and I’m a sophomore at Las Positas College. I’m excited to serve as the Event Coordinator for the Law & Justice Club!
One of my goals is to help students at Las Positas build connections, meet new people, and discover opportunities within the legal and justice fields. Whether it’s connecting with legal professionals, learning from guest speakers, or simply meeting friends who share similar interests, I want to help make the club a welcoming and engaging community for everyone.
I also hope to provide students outside of the Administration of Justice major with
opportunities to explore the legal and justice fields beyond what they typically see
portrayed on television. I’m excited to help create meaningful experiences for our
members and make this a great year for the club!
Kriti Raj - Mock Trial Team Chair
Hi everyone! My name is Kriti Raj and I am a freshman at Las Positas. I am the Mock
Trial Team Chair for the Law & Justice Club! I’m currently getting my AA-T in both
Political Science and Philosophy and hopefully work in either politics or public health
in the future. I’m extremely excited to bring Mock Trial to LPC and hope to create
an amazing team inside of a wonderful club!
