Andreas Preponis has had a diverse career as a vocalist, conductor, drummer, percussionist, pianist, guitarist, arranger, composer, song writer, educator, translator, actor, and voice-over talent. 

Born and raised in Germany, Andreas studied at the Staatliche Hochschule für Musik in Trossingen earning the equivalent to a bachelor and master’s degree in music education with emphases on percussion, voice, and vocal jazz performance. He holds a second master’s degree in choral conducting from CSU Los Angeles. 

An award-winning composer, Andreas wrote and produced music for several short movies and played in countless bands, among them Karl Koch & die Gewürzmänner (percussion, guitar, vocals), Letzte Ausfahrt Trossingen (vocals), and the award-winning a cappella group Down 4 the Count. As a long-time member of the theater group Ensemble Rififi he starred in numerous musical theater productions and originated the lead roles of Detektiv Melonis in Der Fall Grete, the Bartender in Wunder-Bar, Hans Hohner in Hohner. Das Musical., and Theo Stein in Neuneinhalb Knochen. As a studio musician, he has contributed to over 20 album releases and has worked on projects for CBS, HBO, Disney and DreamWorks. Performance highlights in Los Angeles include singing in the choir for Danny Elfman’s Music from the films of Tim Burton, recording German vocals for songs from the Trolls franchise, writing and singing a Greek song for an episode of Curb Your Enthusiasm, and most recently being a featured vocalist on Harmonious, the 50th anniversary fireworks show at Disney World in Orlando, Florida, and the accompanying Disney+ special Harmonious Live.

Andreas is excited to be joining the full-time faculty as Director of Vocal and Choral Music at Las Positas College. Previously, he held adjunct positions at CSU Fullerton, Pasadena City College, Santa Monica College, Cypress College, and Long Beach City College. 

Andreas serves on the boards of the California Choral Directors Association (CCDA) and the California Alliance for Jazz (CAJ), and is a member of JEN, ACDA, and MACCC.
