World Languages:
American Sign Language (ASL), French, Spanish, and Spanish for Spanish Speakers
Students may enroll directly into the first transfer-level courses in World Languages without any assessment. Students interested in enrolling in World Language courses beyond the first transfer-level should do the following:
Take the French Guided Self-Placement via CLASS-Web.
Instructions On How To Complete The French Guided Self-placement:
- Sign on to CLASS-Web and click on the “Steps to Success” tab
- Under “Select Campus Option”, select Las Positas College
- Under the “Step” column, click on a Foreign Language Self-Placement
The Spanish Department offers Spanish for Second Language Learners (SPAN 1A, 1B, 2A, 2B) and Spanish for Spanish Speakers (SPAN 21, 22). More information about the courses can be found here. Students can register into the first level of Spanish (SPAN 1A) or the first level of Spanish for Spanish Speakers (SPAN 21) directly.
- Students who believe they may be qualified to take a higher level of Spanish (SPAN 1B, 2A, 2B) must complete an in-person Spanish assessment in the Assessment Center. See open hours listed to the right on this webpage.
- Students who believe they may be qualified to take a higher level of Spanish for Spanish Speakers (SPAN 22) should contact Hortencia Nevarez hnevarez@laspositascollege.edu to take an assessment.

More information about the courses can be found here. Students can register into the first level of Spanish (SPAN 1A) or the first level of Spanish for Spanish Speakers (SPAN 21) directly.
Students can also review the Multiple Measures link on the left to learn about other ways to qualify for enrollment in courses beyond the first transfer-level based, such as Advanced Placement (AP), International Baccalaureate (IB), and prior college-level work.
