Special Programs Host First-Ever New Student Orientation
Las Positas College welcomed 127 students to its first-ever Special Programs New Student
Orientation on August 11th, bringing together learning communities, support programs,
and campus partners to help students begin their college experience connected and
supported.
The day began with a continental breakfast courtesy of the SEA Committee and a warm
welcome from Dr. Cristine Sidela, Dean of Special Programs, Student Equity & Success,
followed by program presentations and a student panel showcasing opportunities for
involvement, campus resources, and Community.
Students connected with more than 20 programs and services through presentations and
a resource fair, including
Umoja, the Black Cultural Resource Center, Cultural Community Center, Undocumented
Student Support Center, MESA Scholars, EOPS, CARE, NextUp, CalWORKs, Movement API,
Puente, Basic Needs, Honors Program, Student Government, Veterans First, Financial
Aid, Engineering Technology, the Health and Wellness Center, Registration Support
Center, Career and Transfer Center, and Tutorial Center. Financial Aid hosted workshops,
the Registration Support Center provided student IDs, and the Outreach Team led campus
tours. Students also visited the Mini Market, courtesy of Basic Needs.
Thank you to the Special Programs Orientation team and partners who made this inaugural
event possible, as well as to the many faculty, classified professionals, administrators,
student employees, presenters, panelists, outreach staff, and campus partners who
contributed through planning, setup, check-in, presentations, workshops, tabling,
tours, and behind-the scenes support.
