LPC: Computer/Network & Audio/Visual
-
Wendy Pinos provided an update on current IT, networking, and audiovisual projects across campus. At the beginning of the semester, lifecycle computer replacements were completed in Rooms 2412, 2414, and 2416, ensuring the labs were ready for the start of classes.
-
The Copy Center upgrade is nearing completion, with a new plotter still needing to be integrated and brought online. Once completed, IT will begin evaluating the larger fleet replacement project, although that project has not yet moved forward.
-
Several audiovisual projects are also being resumed now that the start-of-semester priorities have been addressed. Projects include upgrades at the Aquatic Center, Black Box, Library, Building 700, and classrooms in Buildings 2300 and 2306. IT will begin developing project scopes and coordinating with contractors while working around ongoing student and campus activities.
-
On the networking and infrastructure side, IT plans to install new firewalls within the next one to two months to replace the existing equipment that has reached end-of-life. The transition is expected to be transparent to campus users with no disruption to service. The campus network backbone will also be upgraded to 100 Gbps, although the campus internet connection will remain at 10 Gbps.
-
Additionally, campus phone services continue to operate normally. Toward the end of the year, IT will work with AT&T to transition inbound telephone services from aging copper-based infrastructure to fiber-based service. Since the campus already has substantial fiber infrastructure, the goal is to complete the transition without disrupting telephone service.
Instructional Technology
- Kat King reported that instructional technology systems have remained relatively stable, with Canvas limiting major updates at the beginning of the semester based on user feedback. LPC continues to support Canvas, Zoom, Hypothesis, Pronto, Turnitin, and other instructional tools.
- The primary transition underway is from Proctorio to Respondus for online exam proctoring. Proctorio will be discontinued after this semester, with limited licenses currently available for faculty who need additional transition time. Respondus includes a LockDown Browser that can be installed on campus computers to help secure online assessments. IT is coordinating implementation across LPC and Chabot, and training workshops, recorded sessions, and Canvas-based resources are available. A Proctorio-to-Respondus transition workshop is planned for late November/early December, and Kat agreed to offer Respondus training during January Flex Day.
- The Chancellor’s Office continues to support pilots of AI tools such as PlayLab and Nectar, with Wanda hosting in-person and online PlayLab workshops for LPC faculty.
- Work also continues toward meeting new federal web accessibility standards. Faculty and Staff have access to local and statewide workshops, as well as WebAIM training for creating accessible documents in programs such as Adobe, Word, and Excel. District ITS is also working to finalize a new software-vetting process to ensure software meets accessibility, data privacy, and higher education security requirements.
Website/Home Page Analytics
- Timothy Druley provided updates on several website projects completed over the summer. Committee Agendas and Minutes have transitioned from PDFs to accessible LPC webpage templates, making documents easier to create, maintain, share, and access. Tim is also exploring the possibility of using Codex to automate accessibility formatting for meeting minutes, with development potentially beginning in December.
- The LPC Connection President’s Newsletter now has an accessible web-based template, with PDFs primarily reserved for printed copies. Email distributions will generally direct readers to the online newsletter.
- Faculty are now required to post office hours on their LPC profile pages. Faculty must use their college work email to submit office-hour information through the designated form. Documentation and instructions for these and other web tools are available through the LPC Employees webpage, and Tim is available for individual or small-group training.
- The committee also discussed the importance of using college-issued email accounts for college business and student communications. Faculty with questions regarding the appropriate use of personal or outside accounts were encouraged to consult their Dean.
District ITS
- Wendy Pinos reported that District ITS recently focused significant resources on addressing a ZoneMail security issue involving phishing/hacking emails that affected numerous colleges and universities. The issue appears to have subsided, and ITS worked to protect district systems and minimize impacts to students and employees.
- District ITS also addressed a significant BankMobile issue that resulted in BankMobile transactions being frozen. As a result, affected students will need to receive their funding through paper checks until the issue is resolved.
- Wendy emphasized the importance of Faculty and Staff using their CLPCCD/LPC-issued email accounts, as District ITS can better manage and secure those accounts. No significant new updates were reported regarding Banner or MyPortal, but Wendy offered to take any questions or concerns back to District ITS for follow-up.

Committee Chair Selection
The Committee discussed the Committee Chair position including responsibilities such as reviewing and approving minutes, facilitating meetings, and representing the committee at Academic Senate and College Council. No other members expressed interest in serving as Chair or were already serving as voting representatives on those groups.
Drew proposed continuing the arrangement from the previous year, with Drew serving as Committee Chair and providing written summaries to Senate and College Council in lieu of attending those meetings. Drew and Andrea will confirm whether this arrangement is allowable and report back at the next meeting.
