Common Course Numbering FAQ

Tutorials

It is easiest to find courses that have transitioned to the new Common Course Numbering by using the "Advanced Search" feature during the registration process. Find step-by-step guidance on how to locate each course below:

When you search for courses in our registration system (Class Web/My Portal), we recommend using Advanced Search:

  1. Click "Advanced Search" at the bottom of the registration page. 
  2. For subject, select "CommStudies LPC CMST 1 only."
  3. For campus, select "Las Positas College."
  4. Add any other filters you'd like.
  5. Click "Section Search."   
  6. Look for sections of "COMM L1," which is the new "COMM C1000: Introduction to Public Speaking" course, (formerly CMST 1) .
  7. Always check the campus location and notes to be sure you are selecting a course that best meets your needs (ie, on campus, online).

When you search for courses in our registration system (Class Web/My Portal), we recommend using Advanced Search:

  1. Click "Advanced Search" at the bottom of the registration page.  
  2. For subject, select "English LPC ENG 1a or 7 only."
  3. For campus, select "Las Positas College."
  4. Add any other filters you'd like.
  5. Click "Section Search."   
  6. Look for sections of "ENGL L1," which is the new "ENGL C1000: Academic Reading and Writing" course, (formerly ENG 1A), or "ENGL L7," which is the new "ENGL C1001: Critical Thinking and Writing" course, (formerly ENG 7).
  7. Always check the campus location and notes to be sure you are selecting a course that best meets your needs (ie, on campus, online).

  2. For subject, select "Math LPC Statistics Math 40."
  3. For campus, select "Las Positas College."
  4. Add any other filters you'd like.
  5. Click "Section Search."   
  6. Look for sections of "STAT L40," which is the new "STAT C1000: Introduction to Statistics" course, (formerly MATH 40) .
  7. Always check the campus location and notes to be sure you are selecting a course that best meets your needs (ie, on campus, online).

  1. Click "Advanced Search" at the bottom of the registration page. 
  2. For subject, select "Political Science LPC POLI 7."
  3. For campus, select "Las Positas College."
  4. Add any other filters you'd like.
  5. Click "Section Search."   
  6. Look for sections of "POLS L7," which is the new "POLS C1000: American Government and Politics" course, (formerly POLI 7) .
  7. Always check the campus location and notes to be sure you are selecting a course that best meets your needs (ie, on campus, online).

  1. Click "Advanced Search" at the bottom of the registration page. 
  2. For subject, select "Psychology LPC."
  3. For campus, select "Las Positas College."
  4. Add any other filters you'd like.
  5. Click "Section Search."   
  6. Look for sections of "PYSC L1," which is the new "PSYC C1000: Introduction to Psychology" course, (formerly PYSC 1) .
  7. Always check the campus location and notes to be sure you are selecting a course that best meets your needs (ie, on campus, online).

 


Other Questions

Check LPC's CCN table (Fall 2025) or talk to a counselor. The updated course list will also be available in the Class Schedule when registering. For Fall 2025, only six courses will have a new title and number.

No. If you completed a course under the old number, it still counts! The new number just makes it easier to track.

In most cases no, CCN courses transfer the same way they did before changing course numbers. But there may be unique cases where major articulation requirements are different. Please talk with Counseling for more information.
