CCN: Common Course Numbering
Same Courses, New Numbers!
The new Common Course Numbering (CCN) system is a statewide effort to make it easier for students to transfer between community colleges and four-year universities. It ensures that similar courses across California Community Colleges have the same course number.
- No more guessing: Courses with the same content has the same course number at all California Community Colleges.
- Easier transfers: Move between colleges or transfer to a UC or CSU knowing your courses count.
- Less confusion: Avoid retaking classes or missing transfer requirements!
What's changing?
- The courses are not changing—just the numbers and titles moving forward. Some course numbers are being updated to align with the CCN system.
- You don't need to retake a course if you completed it under its former name!

How to Find Your Courses
- If you're taking a course in Summer 2026 or earlier, search the schedule for the old registration codes and course titles.
- If you're taking a course in Fall 2026 or later, search the schedule for the new registration codes and course titles.
- We recommend using the "Advanced Search" function and selecting "Las Positas College" as your campus before searching by subject.
- Be sure to pay special attention to the new subject codes:
- Some courses in the same department are listed separately. For example, some English courses are still listed under "ENG," while those that have new common course numbers are listed under "ENGL."
