English Placement Information
High school graduates with a cumulative, unweighted grade point average of 2.5 or higher will self-place into transfer-level English Language & Composition (English 1A).
High school graduates with a cumulative, unweighted grade point average below 2.5 are encouraged to take transfer-level English Critical Reading & Composition Expanded (English 1AEX) or non-transfer-level/one level below transfer English Integrated Reading & Writing ll (English 104).
For more information on the difference between English 104, English 1AEX, and English 1A, please consult the English flow chart, this chart comparing the workload of all three courses, and this side-by-side comparison of what a lesson would look like in a 1A versus a 1AEX class.
Students should also know that if they are not on financial aid and do not need to prove residency, they may prefer the non-credit, free version of English 104 called Non-Credit English 204. Consulth the English and Non-Credit English sections of the LPC catalog.
