100 Years
Gara Orf
Gara Orf is a painter and LPC alumni. 100 Years was painted during her time at Las Positas College. The painting depicts singer Florence Welch, who Orf describes as “a woman I look up to in art”.
The composition centers Welch against a dark background, singing into a microphone before her. Orf captures Welch in a moment of emotional rendition. Welch, who is known for her powerful voice and performances, holds up her pale dress as she leans her head back, eyes closed as she sings. And although we cannot hear her voice, we can feel resonance of her emotions through Orf’s use of color, light, and movement.
100 Years was acquired in 2022 by the Art on Campus Task Force as part of an ongoing effort to grow the LPC art collection, with a focus on local Bay area artist and LPC student artists
