I'm Sue de Funiak, and I am a Professor of Kinesiology at Las Positas College. I started my college career at a community college, playing soccer and working part time while going to school. I then transferred and continued my education (and collegiate soccer playing) at a 4-year institution where I graduated with a B.S. in Zoology and then a M.S. in Kinesiology with an emphasis in Exercise Science and Wellness. I have always loved exercise, sports and movement, especially if it's outside. There is an enormous amount of research showing the physical, mental, and emotional benefits of movement/exercise, so it is my great pleasure to inspire, teach and encourage all of my students to use sound exercise principles to improve their vitality and quality of life.
Outside of work, you can find me practicing what I preach: walking, strength training, hiking, yoga and various sports. I also love reading, podcasts, gardening, live music, traveling, and spending time with loved ones.
As part of the Guided Pathways team, I would love to offer guidance to anyone interested in the Kinesiology major. Please reach out with any questions.
