About Me
I am an East Bay local who grew up in San Leandro/Castro Valley and attended Foothill High School (Go Falcons!) I attended Cal Poly San Luis Obispo where I earned a B.S. in Materials Engineering. I worked for a couple of years before going back to school (while working) to earn my M.S in Materials Science and Engineering from UC Berkeley.
My entire industry career was in the biomedical device industry where I manufactured medical devices out of cool material call Nitinol. While there I was passionate about doing outreach to help students learn more about what it was like to be an engineer. My husband took engineering classes here at LPC, so I reached out to the faculty at the time to be a guest speaker in the Intro to Engineering class (ENGR 1). The days I guest lectured were some of my FAVORITE days of the year! I loved mentoring students and helping them decide whether a career in engineering might be for them.
After working in industry for 10 years I decided to try something new and was hired in 2014 to teach Engineering courses part-time here at LPC. Last year, I was hired on as the full-time Engineering faculty and Department Coordinator.
My goal is to encourage students to be independent, life-long learners who have confidence in their abilities. I love adapting my teaching and methods of instruction to ensure students are engaged in the classroom and mastering the content I’m presenting. I am always looking for ways to incorporate active learning into all of my classes. I strive to create a welcoming, inclusive and respectful classroom community where we can have lively discussions, collaborate on activities and work together to better understand the concepts we are learning.
I can't wait to meet you!
