Film Studies
Film Studies at Las Positas College offers an interdisciplinary approach to studying film history, film analysis, and film production itself. Students can choose from two programs: an AA or a Certificate of Achievement in Film Studies. Depending on their interests, Film Studies students can explore film's historical development, film photography, acting for film, intersections between film and theater, music of great film composers, multimedia reporting, film theory, as well as major global cinema traditions and directors.
Career Opportunities
Film Studies courses prepare those interested in majoring and/or working in fields such as Film, Television, Theater, Multimedia Studies, Liberal Arts, Cultural Studies, or Humanities.
Get involved with film clubs and events on campus!
We have two clubs for students interested in watching movies, talking about movies, hosting film events, and/or making movies; check them out! Aside from club meetings, our clubs host a few Moonlight Movies events per semester in our big outdoor amphitheater and put on the big Las Po Film Fest in the spring. Other film-related events happen frequently - check the main LPC calendar or email us for more info: ewingbrooks@laspositascollege.edu.
Las Po Film Fest 2023 was Thurs. 4/13/23 in the Main Stage Theater of the 4000 building. If you missed this year's film festival, join us in Spring 2024 by either attending the event or submitting your own student film on FilmFreeway
