California Community Colleges Undocumented Student Action Week October 19-23, 2020
Serving the largest number of undocumented students in the state, California Community Colleges are committed to serving ALL students, regardless of immigration status. In its 4th year, Undocumented Student Action Week, October 19-23, 2020, is a system-wide campaign to advocate and provide support resources for our undocumented student population. During the week, California’s community colleges are encouraged to engage in advocacy and support efforts in solidarity with undocumented students throughout the state.
Undocumented Student Action Week (USAW) is a statewide effort led by the California Community Colleges Chancellor’s Office (CCCCO), the Community College League of California (League), the Foundation for California Community Colleges (FoundationCCC), Immigrants Rising, California Student Aid Commission (CSAC), the California Undocumented Higher Education Coalition, Academic Senate for California Community Colleges (ASCCC), and the Student Senate for California Community Colleges (SSCCC). Action Week Partners have developed a toolkit to support colleges with virtual events throughout the week. For more information, visit: Community College League of California.

Background
Beginning in 2017, the California Community College Chancellor’s Office encouraged and supported all 115 California Community Colleges to hold an Undocumented Student Week of Action.
At its September 2018 meeting, the California Community Colleges Board of Governors approved a resolution that noted that the California Community Colleges are committed to providing an open and welcoming environment for all students, regardless of ethnicity, religion, national origin, immigration status, age, gender, medical condition or socioeconomic status. The Undocumented Student Week of Action encourages community colleges to plan events that support undocumented students in their pursuit of higher education and that advocates to Congress a pathway to citizenship for the current Dreamers, DACA and Undocumented students.
In partnership with the Community College League of California, the Faculty Association of California Community Colleges, the Foundation for California Community Colleges, Immigrants Rising and other organizations, community colleges across the state will use the advocacy week to encourage students to host meetings with members of Congress, offer webinars, workshops and legal clinics for students, call on representatives to work toward comprehensive immigration reform and share resources for undocumented students.
