Emergency Medical Services
The Emergency Medical Services program prepares students to achieve certification and licensure to enter into EMS career paths. Students begin their training by completing the first career related courses within the program – EMS 30 - Emergency Medical Responder, and EMS 20 - Emergency Medical Technician with certification as an “EMT” through the California State EMS Authority.
The program also includes curriculum necessary to prepare students to become a Nationally Registered Paramedic (NRP). Students, upon successful completion of the Las Positas College Paramedic Training Program, including the didactic, clinical, and field internship components, will be eligible to sit for the licensing examination as a Paramedic with the National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians (NREMT), and successful students will be eligible for licensure as an Emergency Medical Technician – Paramedic (EMT-P) in the state of California.
The Las Positas College Paramedic Training Program has been approved by the California State EMS Authority through the Alameda County EMS Agency. The Las Positas College Paramedic Program is accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (www.caahep.org) upon the recommendation of the Committee on Accreditation of Educational Programs for the Emergency Medical Services Professions (CoAEMSP).

Th e EMT and the Paramedic get jobs in the public sector as an employee of a Fire Department, the private sector of an Emergency Department, Trauma Center, or responding under contract with a county or private emergency ambulance service.
