Business Administration 2.0 Associate in Science for Transfer (AS-T)
About the Program
The Associates in Science in Business Administration 2.0 for Transfer is based on the state-wide Transfer Model Curriculum for Business and prepares students for seamless transfer into the CSU system to complete a baccalaureate degree in Business Administration or similar major. After completing the required courses in this program students will graduate with a broad-based understanding of the field of business, its demands, required skill-sets, needed abilities, and career opportunities.
Career Opportunities
Career opportunities for students completing this Associate in Science Degree in Business Administration for Transfer are focused on individuals who intended to complete a bachelor's degree in a similar major at a CSU, UC, or other 4-year institutions. These career opportunities are already extensive and are projected to continue as strong employment-growth areas for the next fifteen years. Looking at the information on the Labor Market Index web page (http://www.labormarketinfo.edd.ca.gov/) , in the accounting and financial areas the average projected growth state-wide in 16-25% through 2020. In Alameda county looking at all Business related fields the growth in all areas is projected to be 20-25%. The career opportunities in business are exceptionally diverse. Examples of the career paths include, but are certainly not limited to: account executives, analysts, auditors, budget analysts, compliance managers, accountants, bank employees, managers, entrepreneurs, financial managers, financial planners, government service, insurance representatives, investment counselors, logisticians, public administration, product managers, purchasing agents, retail/industrial sales, risk managers, and economic development officers. Some options may require more than two years of study and additional licensing. Students will learn of the skill-sets, which are needed for success in these fields. Some skill-sets will be developed to a superior level; beginning expertise will be the developmental goal in other areas. The skills include, but are not limited to: active listening, systems evaluation, problem solving, judgment and decision making, monitoring, coordinating actions, time management, and critical thinking. The abilities that students will practice and develop to a higher level include, but are not limited to: oral expression and comprehension, inductive and deductive reasoning, problem sensitivity, and written comprehension.
Program Outcomes
- Upon completion of the AS-T in Business Administration 2.0, students are able to compare and contrast ethical standards and best practices of social responsibility to business situations.
- Upon completion of the AS-T in Business Administration 2.0, students are able to demonstrate knowledge of business operations, the business organization, business environments, and business procedures.
- Upon completion of the AS-T in Business Administration 2.0, students are able to explain the functions of all business operations and identify the resources needed in each area.
- Upon completion of the AS-T in Business Administration 2.0, students are able to list and explain the factors of production, the external business environments and apply their influence in specific business problems.
Learning and Career Pathway Maps
Completion Requirements:
- Completion of 60 semester units or 90 quarter units that are eligible for transfer
to the California State University, including both of the following:
- The Intersegmental General Education Transfer Curriculum (IGETC) or CA State University General Education – Breadth Requirements.
- A minimum of 18 semester units or 27 quarter units in a major or area of emphasis, as determined by the community college district.
- Obtainment of a minimum grade point average of 2.0.
Associate Degrees for Transfer (ADT’s) also require that students must earn a "C " (or "P'') or better in all courses required for the major or area of emphasis.
