Musical Theater Certificate of Achievement (CA)

About the Program

The Musical Theater certificate provides training in the theories and practices of performing in musicals. The program is designed to provide knowledge and practical experience in acting, singing, movement and dance, preparing students to perform in community, amateur and professional productions of musical theater. Students are required to audition for at least one Musical Theater production (THEA 57).

Program Outcomes

Upon completion of the Certificate of Achievement in Musical Theater, students are able to demonstrate a professional work ethic within a professional framework of collaboration in rehearsal and performance.
Upon completion of the Certificate of Achievement in Musical Theater, students are able to demonstrate knowledge of the basic anatomy and physiology involved in tone production and of the respiratory system and its contribution to singing.
Upon completion of the Certificate of Achievement in Musical Theater, students are able to examine and perform within major genres of American Musical Theater.
Upon completion of the Certificate of Achievement in Musical Theater, students are able to practice, perform, and memorize scales, chords, and simple harmonic progressions.
Upon completion of the Certificate of Achievement in Musical Theater, students are able to synthesize acting, movement, dance, and singing skills into a truthful musical theater performance.
