Tutoring
The Las Positas College Tutorial program offers all students free tutoring. Tutoring is provided by trained LPC tutors who are dedicated to students’ educational success. All tutors must take the Tutoring Theory and Practice series of classes.
- TUTR 17A is taken at the start of the tutorial experience and teaches management of tutorial sessions including the ethics and communication skills.
- TUTR 17B must be taken by second semester tutors and focuses on metacognition and questioning skills.
- TUTR 17C is designed to encourage leadership among the advanced tutors.
Motivated students who have passed classes with an “A” or “B”, enjoy working with others, and have received instructor recommendations are encouraged to interview to be tutors and take this series of classes. Only those hired to be tutors at LPC may register for these classes.
In addition, the noncredit tutoring course provides enrolled students with free supervised tutoring to increase the likelihood of success. Trained tutors and instructors provide one-on-one or small-group tutoring to help students achieve specifi c course objectives in a wide variety of subjects. Students seeking support with communication/literacy skills, quantitative reasoning skills, and critical thinking skills will receive tutoring to strengthen and master basic skills.
