As College faculty and staff, you play a critical role in the lives of our students. Because of this, they may come to you with all types of questions including:

If you find yourself looking for additional ways to advise students on these questions, there are people who can help. The Career and Transfer Center, Counseling Department, Work-Based Learning and Tri-Valley Career Center complement each other. Together, we provide information, opportunities, and resources that can assist students in finding the information they need to answer these and other career-related questions.
Consider us all as a resource. We want to help you help your students. As such, we offer our services as well as number of links that can make it easier on you.
In-Class Presentations
The staff at the Career Center are more than happy to come to your classroom on campus to give presentations and to provide job preparation information to students. We can touch on a number of topics, including those below. We can also customize the presentation to specific industries or occupations, as well to your available class time - in order to make it more applicable to your class. Events
The Career and Transfer Center offers a number of hiring events throughout the year. General job and internship fairs include employers from a diverse set of industries – both public and private. Smaller, or mini-job fairs, focus on one department. Employers at these smaller events are looking to hire students with a specific skill set and background. Additionally, if there are any employer contacts you think would be interested in participating in our events please let us know. We are always looking to grow our employer list.
As time goes on, ideas for additional events could be career panels, employer presentations or networking breakfasts. If you have ideas or suggestions, we would love to hear them.
Also, attendance at events such as these is a great extra credit opportunity for students and we are more than happy to sign off on any paperwork or help create extra credit exercises for any of our events.
Internships
Internship experiences are a valuable method of gaining work experience in a particular field while earning a degree or certificate. It is an important step to link your classroom to the work world. Internships are typically one-time, semester-long work experiences related to a student's field of study. The College is developing a network of employers willing to host and hire student interns. Faculty play an important role in this process. Your connections to area businesses as well as you students makes you an invaluable link in the chain.

Guest Speakers or Tours
Guest speakers and facility tours can enhance your lesson plan and reinforce what you are teaching in the classroom. If you would like a guest speaker or find a facility that can give your students a tour to enhance your lesson plan, please contact the Work-based Learning team.
Career Curriculums
Linking the classroom to careers does not need to be contained to work-based learning experiences or job search strategies. It is important to include activities and career skill development throughout a student’s time at Las Positas College. Teaching Soft Skills
Employers are looking for both the specific skills to get a job done AND the soft skills that help their employees keep their job. They want to know candidates have the qualities of a productive employee who will fit well in their organization. In short, they are looking for team players who can solve problems, organize their work, work as a team and communicate effectively.
